During the seismic retrofit and modernization of a historical site at 1017 11th Street, a nearly six-feet long nineteenth-century two-handed sword was discovered, underscoring the site’s rich history dating back to the 1850s.

This seismic retrofit and modernization project is located at 1017 11th Street. TREMAINE conducted archival research at the Sacramento Archives (SAMCC) to develop expectations of what historic resources might be present and their likely locations. While the Cathedral was built in 1886, the block was occupied as early as 1850s. During construction monitoring, we came across a nineteenth-century two-handed sword, nearly six-feet long.
